The practice of meditation is a low cost lifestyle intervention that reduces stress in the mind and body; leading to greater health and well-being. Meditation students learn to train the mind by focusing attention on the breath and body with relaxed awareness. The benefits of a regular, daily practice (as short as 15-20 minutes) are well documented. Physiological changes include a decrease in oxygen consumption, breathing and heart rate, and blood pressure. Advances in neurosciences also demonstrate that meditation exercises the brain, improving cognitive health and contributing to healthy aging. But the day to day results that really matter to people include: an increase in the ability to concentrate and to approach tasks with clarity, a decrease in emotional and behavioral reactions, and greater access to a calm, peaceful state-of-mind - all of which provide fuel for personal growth and change. And happier relationships.
