Journey to the Solar Plexus- "Plant Spirit Medicine for The Self and The Digestive System"

SIGN UP HERE!  Join us on Sunday April 29th as we gather for the full moon and take a journey into our 3rd chakra, the Solar Plexus (Manipura - “The city of Jewels”).

The Solar Plexus is our personal power center, the core of our personality and ego, and dictates how we take our power into the external world. In this workshop we will journey into this chakra, finding answers to questions like: What is my understanding of self? How do I stand on my own? How do I enhance my inner power through self respect, self esteem, and self discipline?

Working synergistically with the Solar Plexus is our digestive system. This is where our bodies are provided with nutrients for growth, repair, and energy as well as the elimination of toxins and waste! How can we better support our digestion to enhance our health and the quality of our lives?

Discussions for this workshop will include: Affirmations, therapies, and plant medicine for the Solar Plexus. As well as plant medicine for supporting healthy digestion, digestive disorders, digestive functions, and what foods we eat to create a healthy gut!

What you should bring: Water! A notebook or journal and something to write with. Anything you might want to add to our altar: plants, flowers, crystals, personal items! Perhaps you would like to wear yellow, the color associated with the Solar Plexus to enhance your power! :) We will be sitting for a large portion of this class so please bring anything you might want or need to be comfortable!

Cost for this workshop is $25-$35 sliding scale. Please pay what feels good for YOU! You will be provided with handouts, tea(s), and the opportunity to try herbal medicines that support the solar plexus and digestion! Plants used will depend on snow melt and accessibility and are therefore TBD!

February 28 Day Yoga Commitment
Feb

to Feb 28

February 28 Day Yoga Commitment

Mountain Sol Yoga invites our students, teachers and community members to explore what a sustainable practice means to them by committing to a 28 consecutive day practice this February. Choose any day in the month of February to begin! With this 28 day commitment we make space in our lives to discover and experience what a stronger commitment to ourselves and our practice can do, and how our practice creates conditions to honor our own personal wisdom.

Commitment to all 28 days does not require asana (physical) practice every day nor practice at Mountain Sol Yoga. Each practice should, however, include one of the 8 limbs of yoga (see https://www.yogajournal.com/practice/the-eight-limbs for in-depth information regarding each individual limb). You can practice at home, on a mountain, in a meadow for as much time as you can devote each day. Experience what it's like to carve out time for your practice, whether you're in the mood or not.

How does it work?

-Anyone can join! Sign up in-person at the studio beginning Thursday, February 1. Use your current unlimited class pass or class pack or sign up for a special discounted $80 unlimited 1 month pass specific to the commitment. If your current pass ends during the month, you are still eligible for the discounted month challenge price.
-Sign a commitment letter holding yourself accountable to both you and the studio and choose how often you would like to post check-ins on Facebook.
-Receive a commitment journal to document your experience, a pen and wristband bracelet signifying your commitment.
-Daily inspiration will be posted each day concerning the 8 limbs of yoga and tips for maintaining your commitment at the studio, FB and website.

When signing up you'll be entered in a drawing to receive a $50 Mountain Sol Yoga Gift Certificate and if you complete your 28 day commitment you'll receive a Mountain Sol Yoga water bottle!

Please join us for the month of February and receive the support of the community as you commit to yourself and your practice! We recognize and understand that practicing for 28 consecutive days can be challenging but it's the commitment to ourselves that makes it possible.

More information available at www.mountainsolyoga.com or inquire in person at the studio.

She intends to inspire a deeper connection to our highest self and to see the interconnection between self and others to ultimately reconnect to the earth from a place of gratitude and reverence. Activating Your Digestive Fire with Ayurveda: A Seasonal Ayurvedic Recipes Workshop

Join Jason Wise and Margeaux Fraasa, both Certified Plant Food Chefs and Yoga Instructors, for a 2 hour recipe development workshop exploring Ayurvedic foods for winter wellness and vitality.  Ayurveda, an ancient Hindu medicine system, integrates following the cycle of seasons as well as tuning into your individual constitution, prakruti, for optimal health and balance both body and mind.  Ayurveda also views health of the digestive system as the source of highest health. Agni, meaning fire, is seen as a metaphor for stimulating digestion and therefore all metabolic functions in the body. In winter season, the digestive fire is actually the strongest.  Early December is the perfect time to choose health-supporting foods and spices that stimulate the digestive fire at its strongest time of the year.

In this workshop we will ...

  • Discuss the three subtle energies/doshas of prakruti (vata, pitta and kapha) and how they integrate into our seasonal health

  • Discuss ancient India Vedic culture and relationship with agni, or digestive fire

  • Demonstrate and prepare three foundation Ayurvedic recipes that ignite digestive fire, build up and nourish the body in winter season

  • Learn essential spices for seasoning your winter foods that aid in a strong, balanced digestion

  • Practice pranayama (breathing techniques) that activate digestive fire

This workshop includes a meal of kitchari, golden milk and ginger spiced tonic. Cost $25 pp pre-registration before 12/9, $30 day of.

Fall Equinox Gratitude & Grounding, Yin & Yang Special Event

As the season changes from summer to fall, we notice a transition in the environment around us. Cool winds increase the dryness introducing a light, airy, floating quality. The mornings and evenings are cool and foliage is bursting with earthy but vibrant colors
.
As humans, we are also affected by the natural cycle of the seasons. Fall is a time of transition for us as well. With the predominance of Vata (Ayurvedic dosha) season, we become cooler and drier physically. We may seem less stable and grounded, transpiring an increase in labile emotions and reactions.

Embracing a sense of warmth, grounding, stability and focus into your yoga practice has a profoundly calming effect on vata and can work wonders during vata season.

Come join Neva as she guides you through a Fall Equinox practice focusing on grounding and strength. Connect with the earth beneath you and your inner self, help quiet the mind and bring balance to your life.

This special seasonal "Yin & Yang" practice will start with some warming and grounding postures and focus on building strength and stability. Then the practice will end with a restorative and balancing focus. Candlelight and essential oils will be used.

Cost: $10 drop in special, bring a friend and receive a discount for each of you ($8 each person). Use of class passes and punch card permitted except 30 for $30 pass.

About the Teacher -One of Neva's life purposes is to help facilitate healing in others through alternative therapies. She is an accomplished massage therapist who has been practicing for over 10 years. Along with massage therapy, Neva also discovered yoga to be one of the most profound therapies for body, mind and spirit. She has been practicing yoga for over ten years. She has trained with Yogis in Thailand, northern India, Mexico and the U.S. Neva blends the skills she has learned from these teachers with her own unique style. She strives to help settle the mind and restore the body through breath work and movement. Neva received her yoga teaching certification from the Yandara Yoga Institute in Baja, Mexico in 2014. When not working you’ll usually find her outside either rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, or snowboarding.

An Immersive Sound Bath is very similar in nature to many of the traditional sound baths that you may be familiar with. However, instead of playing instruments such as glass bowls or gongs around the space, the sounds are created within a circle of 8 independent speakers utilizing the infinite possibilities of electronic sounds.

With this unique setup, the movement and frequency of the sounds can be controlled on a very precise level using the custom software that we have created to move sound in a circular pattern. The cyclical nature of the swirling sounds invokes a blissful and peaceful trancelike state unlike any other.

Additionally, because the sounds selected are neutral (not from nature or traditional instruments) it enables listeners to become easily immersed in thought and to effortlessly project there own imagery onto the soundscape.

The session itself begins by inviting the group to create a cozy place for themselves on the floor with pads, blankets, pillows and perhaps an eye cover. Then there is a brief introduction and greeting followed by 50 minutes of ambient electronic music with 8 speakers setup in a circle around the group.  After the immersion comes to a gentle closing, the session ends with a few minutes of silence and they come back into awareness as slowly as is needed.

$15 per person

Donate for Breast Cancer- project:OM with Partner Manduka

Project:OM is a mindful movement to drive positive change on an epic level. This particular event to benefit Susan G. Komen that takes place at MSY on May 13, 2017 at 9am will be the first of many purpose-driven activities that exemplify Manduka's core brand values and make the world a better place.

Mountain Sol is hosting a donation based class (suggested donation $10) in affiliation with Manduka to donate all proceeds to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

We believe yoga has the transformative power to heal, reveal and inspire. Studies have shown that people who get regular exercise, like yoga, have a lower risk of breast cancer than people who are inactive. Studies also suggest that practicing yoga for just ten weeks seems to reduce stress and anxiety in people experiencing mild-to-moderate levels of stress. Yoga appears to work about as well as relaxation therapy or cognitive behavioral therapy

Donations can be made online at www.projectOM.com/donate.
